The Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hammed Ali (Rtd.) has expressed displeasure over illegal importation of firearms into the country.
The CG made this known while addressing Newsmen at a stakeholders meeting in Lagos on Tuesday, November 21, 2017.
He called for synergy among stakeholders to ensure maximum security and measures to address the lingering problem.
The Customs bass also said that the Presidential Executive Order on the Ease of Doing Business has come to stay, stressing that the sooner the stakeholders synergize on compliance and implementation, the better for all.
In his address, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Mr. Hassan Bello, said the essence of the meeting is to have critical stakeholders proffer a lasting solution to smuggling of illegal firearms and offer suggestions on how to address other issues in the ports.
According to him, Nigerian Shippers’ Council as Port Economic Regulator was mandated to correct anomalies that characterized Nigerian ports and make Nigeria a regional maritime hub in African sub-region.
