NSC joins “50 Drivers of Nigeria’s Marine and Blue Economy,” Lunch, Reaffirms Push Commitment to Sector Growth
The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has restated its commitment to helping grow Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy as it joined other stakeholders at the launch of the book “50 Drivers of Nigeria’s Marine and Blue Economy.”
The event, organised by the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), themed “Driving the Blue Agenda: Recognising Champions Steering Nigeria’s Marine Economy.” brought together industry leaders, government agencies, journalists, and maritime professionals.
The Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the NSC, Dr. Pius Akutah, MON, was represented by Mrs. Juliana Saka, Assistant Director, Operations, Consumer Affairs Department.
Delivering his message, she explained that building a strong maritime economy is not just about ships and cargo, but about the people who work in the sector, the partnerships they build, and the shared purpose that drives progress.
Dr. Akutah also stressed the need for better cooperation, smarter regulations, and systems that make the maritime sector work more smoothly for everyone.
He praised maritime journalists for their role in informing the public and helping the industry stay transparent and accountable.
Also delivering a goodwill message, the former Executive Secretary/CEO of NSC, Barr. Hassan Bello, described the maritime sector as one of Nigeria’s most important economic lifelines and called on everyone to work together to protect and grow it.
According to him, “the maritime economy is too important for us to ignore; we must all come together to save it.”
The book reviewer, Chief (Mrs.) Carol Ufere, former General Manager, SERVICOM, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), praised the publication for documenting the achievements of individuals and institutions shaping Nigeria’s marine and blue economy.
She noted the detailed sectoral insights captured in each chapter, which also includes a comprehensive coverage of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council’s regulatory and trade facilitation mandate.
Several other maritime agencies and associations also delivered goodwill messages, commending MARAN for promoting excellence and accountability through responsible journalism.
The event further restated NSC’s commitment to strengthening policy implementation, transparency, and efficiency across the port and logistics value chain as Nigeria continues to expand the frontiers of its Blue Economy.
