Shippers’ Council Challenges Customs on Sanctions for Under Declared Goods

VANGUARD MARITIME REPORT, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2019.

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has called for outright seizure of all under-declared goods at the nation’s port to serve as deterrent to Nigerian importers.

The Executives Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Hassan Bello, speaking through the Director, Regulatory Service, Celina Ifeora, at an anti-corruption workshop, stressed that the Nigeria Customs Service, NSC start implementing fully Customs Exercise Management Act, CEMA, the issue of under declaration will remain.

Mr Hassan Bello, however, advocated for a window of between six month to a year to be given to sensitize all shippers before the commencement of full enforcement of the CEMA by the customs.
