DEMURRAGE: FG, Shipping firms increase free storage day from 5 to 12

(Vanguard Maritime Report. Wednesday, June 19, 2019. Page 3)

The Federal Government through the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council and the Foreign Shipping Lines operating in Nigeria have increase the Free Storage Day for imported cargoes from 5 days to 12 days.

The development was the outcome of long-drawn battle to get palliatives for importers over huge demurrage resulting from port congestion.

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Council, Mr Hassan Bello said NSC along with PEBEC has concluded plans to meet again over the issue in order to fine-tune the modalities for the implementation
