Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) has donated foodstuffs and other items to Katsina Children’s Home and Kofan Maruga Maternal and Child Health Care facility.
Presenting the items on Monday in Katsina, the North-West Zonal Director of NSC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, said that the gesture was to appreciate the government and people of the state.
According to him, it is part of NSC’s culture to show appreciation to its host communities for the support and cooperation they have been giving to the Council.
“The support and cooperation we have received have assisted the council in discharging its responsibilities efficiently and effectively in the last 27 years.
“It is for this reason that we are here today at this maternal and child healthcare facility to donate these items that we believe will assist the patients and the hospital,” he said.
At Katsina Children’s Home, the zonal director said that the donation was to ensure that the orphans also felt like other children, saying that they deserved even more.
In their separate responses, the Director, Public Health, Katsina State Ministry of Health, Dr Mu’awiya Aliyu, and the officer in charge of the orphanage, Hajiya Rabi Abdullahi, commended the gesture.
Aliyu said that the items donated would be utilised in the facility, as they were basic and useful, calling for the extension of such gesture to other facilities.
He further stated that the donation of the items was an affirmation of the good relationship and partnership between the council and the state government.
While also commending NSC for the gesture, Abdullahi appealed to other kind-hearted individuals and organisations to also assist the orphanage.
According to her, the state government is doing its best in ensuring the wellbeing of the orphans, adding, however, that the efforts should be complemented through donations.
Our correspondent reports that the items donated included: foodstuffs, deep freezers, pressing irons, towels and generators, among others.
