The Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Michael Oamen, paid a courtesy visit to Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) ES/CEO, Dr. Pius Akutah, MON, in Lagos recently.
The meeting aimed to strengthen the partnership between the two organizations and promote maritime growth.
Dr. Akutah while speaking emphasized the importance of collaboration between the NSC and the Nigerian Navy, stating that maritime business would be ineffective without the Navy’s strategic presence.
He commended the naval command for its continued support and urged the Navy to promote fair practices in the sector, as their role is vital to the growth and security of the maritime industry.
Rear Admiral Oamen expressed his appreciation for the NSC’s leadership and management team, highlighting the visit as part of the ministry’s tradition of fostering inter-agency cooperation. He described the NSC as a key partner in ensuring smooth maritime operations and noted that their collaboration has reduced crime and enhanced shipping activities.
He stressed that Navy is ready to engage with stakeholders and respond positively whenever they are needed.
Mr. Rotimi Anifowose, Director Strategic Planning and Research at NSC, reiterated Council’s commitment to working closely with the Council, adding that Council’s transitions into Nigerian Ports Economic Agency (NPERA), will continue to rely on the Navy’s support to achieve its objectives.
