The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), in collaboration with the Rivers State Government, recently hosted the third National Airfreight Summit in Portharcourt. The Summit was aimed at exploring and maximizing Nigeria’s airfreight potential to support economic growth and diversification.
The event, organized by the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) , in partnership with the Rivers State Government, brought together key stakeholders from the airfreight, agriculture, and logistics sectors. This summit is the third of its kind, with previous editions held in Ilorin and Kano, and emphasizes the role of airfreight in diversifying Nigeria’s economy from its oil dependency to non-oil sector.
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, GSSR, represented by Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, Barr. John Otamiri, welcomed the summit, commending the NSC’s efforts to boost the airfreight sector. He assured participants that the Rivers State Government is committed to partnering with the NSC to support airfreight initiatives that align with the state’s economic goals.
The summit featured presentations from several stakeholders, including Mrs. Margaret Ogbonna, Director, Regulatory Service Department, who represented NSC Executive Secretary Barr. Akutah.
In her address, she underscored the summit’s objective to promote economic diversification through airfreight and non-oil exports. She also thanked the government and people of Rivers State for their support.
The event’s theme, “Diversification of Nigeria’s Economy by Harnessing the Potentials in Airfreighting: Rivers State in Focus,” was intended to stimulate dialogue on reducing oil dependency and tapping into new export.
