Shippers’ Council Advocates Formation of Port Community System

Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has advocated for formation of Port Community System where maritime stakeholders will come together through regular meetings to address burning issues in the nation’s seaports.

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Council, Mr. Hassan Bello made the call during a meeting with users of port/shipping services and Organised Private Sector held at the NSC’s headquarters office, Apapa, Lagos.

According to him, Nigerian Shippers’ Council as Port Economic Regulator need the support of stakeholders to make Nigeria a regional maritime hub in the African Sub-region.

He also reiterated the need for good information flow between the Council and the various stakeholders at the ports.

The President of Shippers’ Association of Lagos State, Rev. Dr. Jonathan Nicol said the Association is facing the problem of deplorable port access roads, unavoidable charges, incessant interception by Customs/Police, among others.

He called on Nigerian Shippers’ Council to assist them by addressing these anomalies.
