SHIPPERS’ COUNCIL, CBN PACT AVERTS N2BN CAPITAL FLIGHT

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), said its collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has helped Nigerian importers save N2 billion demurrage charges from foreign shipping companies.

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Council, Mr. Hassan Bello stated this at the recently concluded sub-regional summit on “Unfair Shipping Surcharges and High local Shipping Charges at the Ports of West and Central Africa Sub-region, in Abuja recently.

According to NSC’s boss, about N2 billion has been saved through confirmation of reasonableness of demurrage charges and freight rates by CBN.

He, however, commended the existing collaboration between two agencies of government.
