SHIPPERS’ COUNCIL SAVES IMPORTERS, EXPORTERS N2.3 BILLION

Exploring alternative dispute resolution options for shippers band other stakeholders in the maritime industry has fetched the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) N2.3 billion.

It was saved from complainant who approached it for any discrepancies in their business transaction, the NSC said this amount is exclusive of money recovered in foreign currencies.

The Deputy Director, Complaints Unit, Mr. Mose Fadipe who spoke in Lagos at weekend, said the unit is yearly inundated with 500 complaints, however, he said only tenable complaints were attended to while others were left aside but not without enlightening the complainants.

Giving a breakdown for the period, Fadipe recalled that in 2017, the Council recovered in excess of N1 billion for complaint while last year, its intervention led to the recovery of over N800 million exclusive of money in foreign currencies, in the first half of this year over N500 million has been recovered.

Some of the complaint that the Council settled arose from the gridlock that had plagued the port and its environs, leading to increase in cargo dwelling time
