Shippers’ Council visits Customs…… Harps on improved collaboration

Nigerian Shippers’ Council is harping on improved collaboration with Nigerian Customs Services to aid efficiency, smooth operations and effective service delivery at the ports.

The Director, South-South Zone of the Council, Mr. Glory Onojedo stated this when he led the Executives of the Shippers’ Association on a courtesy visit to the Customs Area Comptroller (CAC) Area II Command Centre, Onne, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

According to him, the improved synergy between the two agencies would curb unnecessary delays in cargo clearance for shippers and also boost the country’s revenue

Onojedo explained that the role of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council as Port Economic Regulator includes facilitation of trade through the protection of shippers’ interest, providing guideline on tariff setting to guide against arbitrariness, monitoring and enforcing standard of service delivery, performing the mediatory role among stakeholders, ensure compliance by all parties with the provision of the port concession agreement.

In his response, the Customs Area Comptroller (CAC), Baba Imam commended Nigerian Shippers’ Council for the pivotal role it has played as the nation’s Port Economic Regulator. He expressed his readiness to ensure continuous synergy with NSC.

According to him, effectiveness of synergy between the Customs and the Shippers’ Council in service delivery cannot be underscored, adding that the command is exploring modalities to facilitate trade that will not negate the laws.
