The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) disclosed that it has slashed port charges by 34 percent thereby redirecting Nigerian bound cargoes hitherto diverted to port of neighbouring countries.
Speaking at the 3rd Maritime Stakeholders’ Interactive Forum on 12th September, 2019, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Hassan Bello, said that the container cleaning fee that was being collected by shipping firms from importers has been cancelled.
He said that negotiation with the terminal operators and shipping companies with regards to port charges is going on , adding that with time more of the charges will be reduced.
Shippers’ Council is the reference point for the charges, neither the Government Parastatal nor the private sector can raise any charge without consultation and negotiation with the “Nigerian Shippers’ Council”, he added
