COMPLAINTS ADVOCACY VISIT: LANSAL TO COLLABORATE WITH NSC TO RAISE INDUSTRY STANDARD & SERVICE DELIVERY IN NIGERIA

In line with an ongoing quarterly advocacy visits to terminals and shipping companies in the country, the Complaints Unit of the Council was at *Lagos & Niger Shipping Agencies Ltd*(LANSAL) today.

Receiving the complaints team, the Managing Director of the company Mr. Todd Rives welcomed and thanked the team for such an iniative.

The head of the visiting team, Mr D. J. Orume: a deputy director in the Council, commiserate with the management of Lansal over the demised of their former Managing Director.

He informed the shipping agencies of the need to do the needful for Ease of Doing Business in the Country. “ as a referee in the Industry, the Council is always fair to all the stakeholders”.

Orume, called on Lansal to pay consignees container deposit without delay once there is no financial indebtedness from customers. He explain the importance of Port Service Support Portal (PSSP)a real time platform for complaints handling, he tasked Lansal to forward names and email addresses of their staff for profilling on the platform.

He further advised Lansal to stop placing unnecessary cargo lien especially on customers that are not indebted, “we do not want to accrued a third party liability” he added. He urged them to enhance their operations and eliminate cost.

Rives, however informed the complaints team that Lansal collaborate with NSC to raisr Industry Standard and improve service delivery for customers in Nigeria. He also stated that Lansal value their customers and at times offer waiver“we continue to be customer friendly, we operate an electronic booking system”

He lamented that “we have hundreds of containers stucked with customers, while some are at the port. About 300 boxes are in Ikorodu Port and lots in APMT” he added “we gets from pressure from our Principals to return empties.

Other challenges he stated are police stopage on cargo, on every vessel we record over 50 cargo stopage by the police”

The complaints team leader informed the Shipping Agencies Ltd that Council would look in to any of their complaints that has merit.
