Shippers’ Council Launches Drug Abuse Policy

Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), has launched Alcohol, Drugs and other related Substances Abuse Policy in line with its campaign against drugs abuse in the workplace.

Addressing staff at the NSC’s Headquarters in Lagos, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Barr. Akutah Pius, MON said that the Council has drafted a drug abuse policy to create awareness for staff. Director, Human Resources Management Department, Mrs. Ada Okam who represented by the ES/CEO said that the newly launched policy has come to stay and all staff of the Council are expected to abide by it.

Also speaking, the Head of the Medical Unit of the Council, Dr. Ifeoma Ricketts, said it was imperative for every organization to institute a drug abuse policy as a means of advocating for zero tolerance to drug abuse among staff.

She expressed the agency’s readiness to conduct a random test on the staff in line with its campaign against drug abuse.

Pharmacist Okunde Fatima Olaitan, a consultant gave a presentation titled “Sensitization on the Abuse of Drugs, Alcohol and other Substances Policy”. Pharmacists Okunde spoke extensively on drug abuse, causes, consequences and need to adhere strictly with the Drug Abuse Policy.

Some participants who spoke with “The Shipper” crew expressed appreciation to the Council for the launching of the Drug Abuse Policy, noting that the sensitization exercise has acquainted them with knowledge on drug abuse and the need to do away with it.

Nigerian Shippers’ Council places at the fore burner, healthy living of staff, being a valuable resource for the realization of its regulatory mandate.
