Shippers’ Council Saves Nigeria Over 6Billion Naira Through Complaint Handling… Adaora Nwonu, Deputy Director Trade Services, NSC
The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC)has saved Nigeria over six billion naira. Deputy Director Trade Service, Adaora Nwaonu made this declaration at the Non-oil Export Summit held recently in Lagos.
Adaora Nwonu who represented the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive of the Council, Barr. Pius Akutah MON, noted that the Council as the nation’s Port Economic Regulator ensures collaboration with other sister agencies advocating for the development of non-oil export in the country.
She also attributed lack of infrastructures as an impediment facing non-oil export in Nigeria, noting that Nigerian Shippers’ Council has put in place an incisive structure that will promote the growth of the non-oil sector.
Also speaking at the program, Mr. Arnold Jackson, Director Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), applauded the role Nigeria has played in the development of non-oil sector since the 1950’s. while acknowledging the fact that the Federal Government initiative in the ongoing diversification to non-oil sector have gained momentum.
He also noted that non-oil export dominated the foreign exchange earning pre-1970’s.
In his contribution, the Controller, Lilypond Terminal, Nigeria Customs Service, Ijora Command, Controller Ajibola Odunsanya noted that the Nigeria Customs Service has generated One Billion Dollars in the last quarter.
According to him, the Customs in collaboration with Nigerian Shippers’ Council and Nigeria Port Authority have aided trade facilitation.
Speaking on the theme of the Summit tagged; “Non-Oil Export, The Past, The Present and The Future,” the Chief Risk Officer of Providus bank, Mr. Olugbile Erinwusi said the essence of the summit was to foster collaboration among government agencies and key players in the non-oil sector. “We recognize the huge impact the export corner brings to the growth and development of the nation and will continue to be a strong ray of light on the ending possibilities that are embedded in the export business” he added.
