The Executive Governor of Borno State, His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Zulum has commended the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) for the role it has played towards the development of Jauri Inland Dry Port project.
Prof. Zulum made the commendation when he paid a courtesy visit to the NSC’s Headquarters in Lagos on Wednesday. According to him, the commitment was seen on the part of the Council that the dry port project is a must in the commercial state.
The Governor said that the dry port project when developed will address unemployment, checkmate insecurity and accrue substantial revenue for the government. He expressed his readiness to support the Migfo, the concessionaires of Jauri Inland Dry Port and a bonded terminal operator who have shown interest in the development of the state’s dry port project. He said that the Borno State Government is working assiduously to deliver the Jauri Inland Dry Port project in six months.
The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Barr. Akutah Pius appreciated the visit by the Executive Governor of Borno State and his entourage for the visit.
The NSC boss was optimistic that the visit by the governor was an indication of the Borno State Government’s deep commitment to the development of this transport infrastructure project.
He also stressed that the federal government mandated the Council to facilitate the development of Inland Dry Port across the various designated locations.
According to him, Maiduguri is one of the transport infrastructure projects concessioned in 2006 under Build Own Operate and Transfer (BOOT) arrangement to bring the shipping services to the shippers at the hinterlands.
