The Executive Secretary/CEO of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Barr. Pius Akutah, has reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to enhancing community safety through its ongoing partnership with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC). Speaking during a recent meeting with the PCRC, Barr. Akutah emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and the broader community. He noted that the presence of the PCRC in the community serves as a crucial catalyst for national development.
“Your presence here has strengthened us to further our partnership with you. It signifies your commitment to nation building,” Barr. Akutah stated. He expressed his appreciation for the PCRC’s ongoing efforts to support the NPF and foster safer communities. While acknowledging that the relationship between the NSC and PCRC is well-established, he stressed the need for continuous collaboration to ensure its sustained success. “Let’s keep this relationship booming. It is a catalyst to the development of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council,” he concluded.
Barr. Akutah also commended the sacrifices and contributions made by the PCRC, particularly in their efforts to reduce crime and enhance security within the community. He assured the committee of the NSC’s unwavering support for their initiatives and urged for even stronger ties moving forward.
In response, Pastor Cornel Okwesilieze, Chairman of the PCRC, expressed his gratitude to the NSC for its support, particularly during a seminar held a few months ago. He highlighted the pivotal role of the PCRC, an organization established in 1984 by the NPF to foster a partnership between the police and the community. Pastor Okwesilieze noted that some community members are often reluctant to approach the police directly with information, which is where the PCRC steps in. The committee serves as a trusted intermediary, facilitating the flow of crucial information that can help reduce crime.
The PCRC also engages in town hall meetings and capacity-building initiatives to raise awareness and foster stronger relationships between the community and the police. Pastor Okwesilieze emphasized that the PCRC not only provides a platform for communication but also supports the NPF financially and logistically. One such contribution is the building donated to the NPF by the PCRC, a gesture that underscores their commitment to enhancing the resources available to the police force.
Pastor Okwesilieze called for continued support from the NSC to help sustain the PCRC’s efforts, emphasizing that their collaboration is vital to reducing crime and building safer communities.
